challenge.

i've always wanted to be a runner. one of those people that runs everyday and actually enjoys it. instead i'm the type of person that despises running and is nearly afraid of it. but things are about to change...

my dear friends kate and gentry and i were talking about how we want to become runners. gentry and i are on the same page on the hatred of running while kate's pretty athletic and doesn't mind a good run every now and then. we decided that we're going to start jogging/walking/running little by little. our goal is to build up so that we can do a 5k easily. today was day 1 and we jogged a mile and then walked a mile. i learned 3 things about running today:

1. running is all in your breathing. kate shared this little secret with us today. if you keep a good rhythm breathing, it's much easier to get through your run.

2. the music that you listen to and where you run is key. i've always tried running with music that will "pump me up" and is up beat. this evening i tried running to something a little more calming and it was so much better to jog to! also, we decided to run outside on a path that's covered with trees. it was much better scenery than a gym with lots of buff people around.

3. it's so much more fun to run when you have friends with you. even though we all had our ipods in when we were jogging, it's so much more fun to have people with you so that you push one another.

even though it's only been one day and we still have a long ways to go, i think my relationship with running is already changing a bit. we might be able to be friends after all.

welcome 2010.

christmas is over, the new years ball has been dropped, and we find ourselves at the beginning of a new decade. winter seems to be in full blast here seeing as though there as been snow on the ground since christmas eve. i've been in lazy mode the past few days, but when there's snow outside and the temperature has dropped into the teens, i find it okay to stay cozy inside.

yesterday i ventured out of the house to spend some time over coffee with two of my friends, ally and alison. both are encouraging people that have such a passion for whatever they do. it was so fun to catch up with them and be encouraged by the love that they have for people and for Christ.

currently i'm working on a list of things i wish to accomplish in 2010. today when i was reading through different blogs, i ran across this picture from the blog an open sketchbook.

so instead of making resolutions this year, i'm going to attempt to not fear failure. hopefully in january 2011, i can say that i did just that.

simple as it should be.

what a fun weekend!
this weekend consisted of seeing old friends, meeting jenny&tyler and listening to them in a mini-house type concert that was so cute and fun (which unfortunately i don't have pictures of...i'm getting bad about remembering to take pictures...opps!), a razorback victory, eating chips and salsa...mmmmm, sonic happy hour, the "traditional" cici's on saturday evening trip, and watching season four of how i met your mother. it was such a relaxing, fun weekend...too bad it's monday again.

the busy part of the semester is here and i can not wait to kiss the fall semester of my junior year goodbye! today i registered for spring classes and i'm already ready to start in on those and get them out of the way.

hogs,crafts, and mayors.

razorback tailgating with friends? um, yes please!!

i have finally managed to obtain a job! i am now the art teacher at the boys & girls club. you can find me gluing popsicle sticks together, twisting pipe cleaners, and making tissue paper flowers everyday from 3-5:30.

last night my little friend gentry and i decided to get some studying done and headed over to hastings. there we met the mayor of dover, a policeman, and a minister. no, not 3 different people, we met a man who just happened to be the mayor, a policeman, and a minister. i got tickled at this and tryed not to giggle everytime the man told us another one of his titles. kind of funny...but real impressive!
